Sierra Leone Ministry
We provide support to the Nar Sarah Clinic in Kabala, Sierra Leone. Donations of money, medical supplies, clothing, bedding, birthing kits provide life saving resources for this poverty stricken region.
Over the years NKUMC has donated funds, medical supplies, clothing, school materials, birthing kits, and bedding to the clinic. In 2006 the church raised tens of thousands of dollars to enable a young girl from Kabala to travel to Israel for life saving heart surgery. We continue to support the clinic today, and you can help!
NK United Methodist Church, along with CITA International and other charities and aid organizations, supports the Nar Sarah Clinic in Kabala, Sierra Leone. Dorcas and Daniel Kamanda, NKUMC members, established this clinic after the civil war when there was no medical care.
Every day, between 40 and 50 people pass through the clinic doors, many of whom have traveled on foot for up to one week to get there. In a country where the average person lives on less than $2 a day and hospitals provide care only to those who can pay with cash, Nar Sarah is worth the walk. The clinic’s manager, Peacemaker Kargbo, and his staff work tirelessly to provide medication, testing, pre-and post-natal care, immunizations, and minor surgeries to those who can’t get treatment anywhere else.
Throughout the year, we collect various "kits" to send to the clinic as well as to UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief. Relief-supply kits help provide care for the most vulnerable people during times of crisis. Health kits, sewing kits, school kits, bedding kits, birthing kits and cleaning buckets are collected by generous donors across the United States. These items are then sent to one of two supply depots where volunteers assemble, verify, and pack the kits so they can be sent to where they are needed most.
Kits also help sustain everyday life for people who lack ready access to essential supplies. They provide vital support for UMCOR's global development work and make a tangible difference in people's lives.
Below you can download the supply lists for various kits. Kits can be dropped off or mailed to the church office at 450 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown, RI 02852. Even one kit can make a life-saving difference!
"Our Little Roses" Ministry in Honduras
Since 2025, North Kingstown UMC, in partnership with many other Christian and secular organizations around the country, has supported the "Our Little Roses" ministry for girls and young women located in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. For more than 30 years, the mission of Our Little Roses has been dedicated "to rescuing and empowering girls in Honduras who are at risk, transforming their lives in a loving community rooted in unity, respect, and security. We nurture their growth into successful women, guided by strong moral and spiritual values grounded in the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Our Little Roses envisions a future where Honduran girls are empowered to become compassionate, self-reliant, and respected members of society. We create an atmosphere of love and opportunity, providing each girl with the highest quality bilingual education. Through this transformative work, Our Little Roses seeks to serve as a model ministry that inspires and impacts communities beyond its own borders.
In addition to providing a safe and secure residential home for more than 70 abused, abandoned, and neglected girls in San Pedro Sula, the ministry provides a balanced diet, medical and dental care, spiritual formation, a chance to attend school, and perhaps most importantly, love, and respect.
In 2025, in addition to generous donations to the home, our congregation raised the funds needed to fully re-equip the science laboratories of the Holy Family Bilingual School, located on the grounds of the residential home, following catastrophic damage to the school buildings.
